Tweet Accra is similar to Las Vegas., believe it or not There is not a strip filled with iconic casinos and restaurants or one-of- a kind shows, but there are prostitutes- many, many prostitutes. That's right just like the ones you see at casinos nationwide. Dressed up in their scanty gear, wearing their cheap lip gloss and frizzy weaves.
Everywhere expats go in Accra, you see prostitutes, in packs. After all, what girl wants to hook alone? To make it worse, you can smoke in the bars here, so I often feel like I am in a bad 80's movie at some cheesy bar, where some fat old guy is pushing up on some young chic in red leather. I am sure you get the point.
The bars, of course, are not the only place they frequent. You can also find them in droves on the street; I'm sure its just because some of them prefer the fresh air though. After all, who would risk malaria and STDs?!?! For a young girl, like myself, who walks, I have found this to be an unfortunate thing.
Yesterday, on my way home from work a car slows down and eventually stops in front of me. Now, I have had men try to pick me up in their car before. I mean, I definitely am worth stopping for, but something was different about the way he stopped. As I walked past the car, he slowly rolled the tinted class of his new car and said something. I would love to tell you what he said, but I had my headphones on. All, I know is that I gave him the look from hell, he said sorry and quickly pulled off. Then a guy behind me on a bike congratulates me on shooing him so well. It then occurred to me, he thought I was a prostitute. WTF?!?!? Not to mention, I was wearing a boutique dress and carrying my laptop. I know we are in the 21st century, but I was under the impression prostitutes were still taking cash and didn't need laptops for visa charges.
I guess it goes to show, men really don't use the right head all the time.
Until Next Time. Smooches
